One of my favorite things about Whitesburg is its weekly newspaper, the Mountain Eagle. Every week, the paper runs a full page of anonymous community grievances on any and every topic. It's called "Speak Your Piece" and the subheading reads, "tell us what's on your mind. No need to give your name." Then it lists a phone number where you can call and record your own message to be transcribed and put in the paper the next week. People can talk about politics, community issues, personal problems, whatever. I could try to explain this whole phenomenon more, but I think it's best to just let the content speak for itself. These are real, unedited examples from past issues.
Stephen loves Crystal, not Heather. I found me a real woman. Crystal is a real woman. *** Sometimes I wish I didn't have that Google search thing on my computer. I typed in the name of my favorite country singer, Ty Herndon. Boy was I surprised to find out about his arrest record from 1997. I am so disappointed. *** I want to say something about the ducks around Dairy Queen. I like going to Dairy Queen and eating, but those ducks make me sick. I wish someone could do something about them. Thank you. *** Why are people so stupid in Letcher county? They're either drug dealers, hoochies, or potheads. They can't get anything straight. *** To a certain guy on Thornton: I think it's a shame you let your son sleep with his stepsister. And since they broke up he's sleeping with his cousin. What's up with that? I think that's a rotten shame. That's the kind of thing that makes Kentucky people look bad. It's called the Inbred State because of people like that. See if you can solve the problem. If you do, let me know in Speak Your Piece. *** I just wonder when our local cable system is going to put on some good wrestling. I think it's time we get something new. I'm tired of them taking the wrestling off and putting boxing on. Why can't they leave stuff alone on ESPN and let us wrestling fans watch what we want to watch? *** Hey, Preacher, when you go through the woods coon hunting and throwing down Dr Pepper cans you are not a very good Christian. The Lord doesn't like you to litter his earth. *** I want to let all of the females in Letcher County know that Jeff Jr. is taken. *** Where's my neck brace? ***

Boss is a dick, Suki ditched me (more like forgot I was coming. I love you Suki) and. . . I've been hanging out constantly with Clay's friends, most of which are really weird petty adolescent PUNX LOLOLOLOLOL. But I like Bri, Twelve, and Micah, a lot. Jay, a little, but he doesn't talk much. Micah has all of my music interests, to the T, it's rad. Bri is just cute and nice. Twelve is just cool.
Micah is giving me guitar lessons, because he's super good at it and going into Music Education. He's the one I like best out of all of Clay's friends because I think he's a really good influence on him, and he likes me, and talks to me about really cool shit all the time and doesn't think I'm gay just 'cause I'm younger than him. I found ten bux in front of the Tivoli and gave it to him and now I have 15 free guitar lessons. I hope Clay learns from him.
I get to see Drew on Wednesday! YayayayayayayayYAY! |

So, as much as I'd like to live alone next year I'm probably gonna need a roommate. Anybody know anyone who doesn't have a housing situation arranged? |

I've been done with this thing for half a year now, thanks to all the things I said when I was 14 and 15 on here, but since I don't know a better way of asking, and really, really want to know: How was Brave New Voices? |

on tuesday i rode down to e's house and we went thrifting broadway with emily. we ran into caz and then jenny and nik. i bought shorts for Missouri... and candy. we walked back to e's house and buzzed nik's hair off, then we went to derailer and they wouldn't let emily trade her mountain bike in for a road bike... it was stupid. i was on my mom's bike because it was acting up. i think i fixed it but i still want to true the wheels. then i was way late for work so i rode to 15th and platte at around lightening speed. i caught the 28b and it got me to lowell in 5 minutes! so fast!
yesterday i worked the afternoon shift until 6. then i went to adrien's birthday party. it was super fun. getting to see everyone rocked. although So You Think You Can Dance was mentioned SO MUCH. anyway, i took lots of bad photos (GHOST PUNCHES!) and ate a ton of vegan/vegetarian food. the strawberry cupcakes with maple syrup were so so so good. we even played Beanie! and chair danced to girl talk!
today jenny is decorating e's helmet with emily's glow in the dark puffy paint. then emily and i are meeting chris lowe for a picnic and going to shakespeare in the park. tomorrow i'm all about packing for the vaycay. then saturday IS VAYCAY!!!! |

stuff:
jenny spent the night wednesday. we hung out with rebecca, elizabeth and nik doing who knows what. thursday must have happened, but i don't remember it at all. besides waking up at 6:40 because jenny had to leave. friday was free slurpee day, so mary and jenny and i abused that a little too much. then we got free ice cream from nik and went rafting with megan and scot. that night i worked and ray gave me the scandalous skinny on his girl troubles. i love working with ray. he always has good stories and he laughs when i make jokes or do stupid things. sigh. what more could i want in a coworker? oh right he also let me say goodbye to mary for a good half hour when i was supposed to be cleaning. we weren't busy or anything... but, just... that was nice of him.
on saturday mary left for montana way early in the morning. i rode my bike (in a skirt. i rock!) to buffalo to meet jenny, but when i got there she was still acquiring a new cell. so i met e and her roomate davey and eventually nik at pablo's. we went back to e's and ate more of our soft pretzels and chilled. then i rode to work. who was sweaty? me.
yesterday e and rebecca and i went to d note for pizza that was amazing. then we went to the gay rodeo. the drag steer riding competiition was entertaining. after the gay rodeo i went to the holy family bazaar (hahahahaha) and met megan. we ate sausage sandwiches. made fun of a lot of people. checked out the eye candy. the best part of the evening was when i was drinking out of a paper concession cup. it felt like it was slipping i think, but i can't be sure. essentially, i ended up just like throwing it in the air and showering myself in orange fanta. my hair was sticky and it was all over this newly washed pair of jeans. i was laughing and crying at the same time. |
